A technology firm that works with more than 120 councils has relocated its headquarters from London to Wigan.

The company Agilisys, which also develops AI software, has had offices in the town for 10 years but is now moving its main base to the refurbished former civic centre.

Councillor Nazia Rehman said the move was a “game-changing moment”, boosting employment, and was a “massive display of confidence in our borough and digital ambitions”.

“Following the impressive revival of the old Civic building, which encouraged Agilisys to relocate their operations, this is an exciting sign of things to come with various other regeneration projects in the pipeline across the town centre,” he added.

Agilisys, which employs more than 300 specialists, will be based in the building that once served as the heart of local government after opening on Millgate in 1970.

It had been under threat from demolition but has now undergone a major restoration.

Agilisys founder Charles Mindenhall said: “With digital and AI technologies helping to transform services, it’s an incredibly exciting time for the council and Agilisys, and we’re really looking forward to continue our great work in this impressively repurposed Civic building.

“This move will help us continue to grow and deliver for residents not just in Wigan borough, but across the country as well.”
