Former Rangers, Aston Villa and Fulham star Ross McCormack suffered a first-round knockout defeat on his boxing debut.

The 39-year-old, who retired from playing in 2024, is among the ex-footballers to have tried their hand in the squared circle.

But on A Night To Remember II put on by Pro Project Promotions, McCormack failed to see the second round against his old Leeds team-mate, Matt Kilgallon.

Kilgallon evaded a looping right hand from McCormack and replied with a heavy left hook that floored the Scot.

McCormack was then slumped in the corner of the ring and failed to beat the referee’s count.

He recovered to embrace Kilgallon, who was pronounced the winner by KO.

Elsewhere on the card, Lee Trundle beat ex-Scotland striker Chris Iwelumo in Liverpool.

Other recognisable names included Adam Hammill, former Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme and retired midfielder Steve Jennings.

The events are organised by ex-Arsenal and Hibs goalkeeper Graham Stack and the proceeds go to charity, with thousands of pounds being raised.

McCormack was the biggest name on the card but his debut proved to be disastrous.

The former striker enjoyed a superb professional football career for 14 clubs and also played 13 times for Scotland.

His most impressive spell came between 2010 and 2016 at Leeds and Fulham. He scored 53 times for the Whites in 144 matches before securing a move to the Cottagers.

McCormack moved for £11million and proved to be a hit in London, netting 38 times in 89 games during his time.

An unsuccessful switch to Aston Villa and a number of loans followed, including a prolific spell in Australia with Melbourne City.

McCormack then spent time in non-league before ending his career with Doncaster.
