Darren Moore, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss, is a contender to succeed Dave Challinor should he leave Stockport County.
Challinor, 50, is emerging as favourite to take over at Blackburn Rovers following Michael O’Neill’s departure. He has been at Stockport just over four years and has overseen their promotion from National League to League One but lost in the playoff final to Bolton Wanderers.
He described the defeat as ‘a sliding doors moment’ as he decides his next move.
Darren Moore won promotion to the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday in 2023
Moore, 52, has been looking for a return to management since leaving Port Vale last year.
He has two promotions on his CV, one with Vale a year ago and the second with Wednesday in 2023 when they returned to the Championship from League One.
Moore was controversially sacked by West Brom with his team fourth in the Championship in 2019 and still in with a shout of promotion.
Grimsby Town boss Dave Artell is another name under consideration at Stockport.
