NBC Sports Philadelphia has officially confirmed the surprise departure of a Philadelphia Phillies sideline reporter who leaked her own lay-off days before it was announced.

Taryn Hatcher, who has been on the sidelines for a number of years, will no longer be with the company.

Speaking to the Philadelphia Business Journal on Monday, NBCSP vice president of content Alexandra Matcham revealed the network is changing its storytelling angles.

‘As the game of baseball evolves and changes, so too does our coverage,’ Matcham told the outlet.

‘In order to give fans who are not at the stadium the most entertaining and informative broadcast we can deliver, we want to add to our storytelling in new ways.

‘This season, we believe we can do that by bringing a different approach to our coverage.’

Hatcher joined the network in 2018 as a rink-side reporter for the Philadelphia Flyers before moving to her role with the Phillies.

When the network announced its spring training coverage plans last week, Hatcher’s name was not listed.

On Friday, it was revealed by the Philadelphia Inquirer that NBCSP chose not to renew Hatcher’s contract and eliminated her position.

In a post to X on Saturday, Hatcher called the news ‘heartbreaking’ before revealing what she was told by the company.

‘Cat’s out of the bag, so I’ll keep this short and sweet as possible,’ Hatcher wrote. ‘Sadly, I won’t be returning on Phillies coverage this season.

‘At the conclusion of the 2025 season, I was told that my role on the sidelines at NBCSP was being eliminated moving forward.

‘While the news was pretty heartbreaking, I have to acknowledge that it was a really fun run. I loved every second of it. I’m grateful for everyone who tuned in over the years, and for the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.’
