A doctor has urged people to cut back on this common habit that could lead to health issues.

In an Instagram post on Thursday (9 April), Dr Amir Khan said people should resist going to the toilet before they go to bed or leave the house “just in case” they may need it later.

“It might actually be making your bladder symptoms worse,” he explained. “I see this all the time in clinics, people going again, even when they’ve just been, because it feels safer than risking urgency or waking up in the middle of the night to go.”

Dr Khan said this habit could send the wrong signals to your brain. “Over time, your bladder gets used to being emptied at lower volumes,” he said, advising people to try and resist the urge.
