Cristiano Ronaldo ended his long wait to win the Saudi Pro League after scoring twice to help Al-Nassr clinch the title.

The Portuguese legend had been looking to win his first major honour in Saudi Arabia since joining Al-Nassr in a lucrative move in January 2023.

His only honour at the club had been the Arab Club Champions Cup, prior to winning the title.

Al-Nassr had passed up the opportunity to win the league earlier this month after conceding a bizarre own goal in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with title rivals Al-Hilal.

Ronaldo, who earns £488,000-per-day in Saudi Arabia, then saw his side lose to Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final.

Al-Nassr eventually got over the line in the Saudi Pro league on Thursday night by winning 4-1 against Damac, ensuring they finished two points clear of Al-Hilal.

Sadio Mane scored the opener for Al-Nassr in the first half, before Kingsley Coman doubled their advantage after half-time.

Al-Nassr were given a scare when Damac pulled a goal back in the 57th minute, before Ronaldo eased any nerves with a brace.

The 41-year-old scored his first from a free kick out on the left wing just after the hour mark, before scoring a close range finish in the 80th minute to seal a 4-1 victory and the title.

Al-Nassr had not won their domestic league since 2019 and they had come second, second and third in Ronaldo’s three previous campaigns at the club.

Ronaldo finished the season with 28 goals in the league, with only Julian Quinones and Ivan Toney scoring more.

The Saudi Pro League season has not been without controversy, with Ronaldo heavily involved.

The legendary forward went on strike back in February, with the 41-year-old protesting over alleged preferential treatment to title rivals Al-Hilal after they signed Karim Benzema.

Ronaldo ultimately ended his strike and returned to first team action.

In April, Toney launched an attack on the integrity of officiating in the Saudi Pro League, with the Al-Ahli forward and team-mates appearing to suggest the top flight were attempting to help Ronaldo win the title.

Ronaldo is now set to link up with Portugal ahead of his sixth, and surely final, chance at winning the World Cup.
