Manchester City have agreed a deal worth £116million with Nottingham Forest to make Elliot Anderson the first signing of the post-Pep Guardiola era.
The England midfielder is currently in the United States at the World Cup and a medical will now be arranged – with the expectation that he becomes a City player over the coming days.
Anderson is nursing a slight glute concern ahead of England facing Panama on Saturday but it is not thought to be serious and no scan has been necessary.
City were believed to have agreed an initial £106million fee with Forest last week, with Daily Mail Sport revealing earlier this month that Evangelos Marinakis was looking to secure a British-record £130m after add-ons.
Negotiations between the two clubs over the past few days centred on the make up of add-ons and the timeframe in which they are paid down.
But after a breakthrough in talks, City sources now stress that the deal for Anderson is a straight one-off payment and are playing down the idea that they have eclipsed the £125m that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak.

Anderson will, however, become the most expensive English footballer of all time ahead of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. The 23-year-old has made it clear that City was his preferred destination, with personal terms already agreed.
England boss Thomas Tuchel has already said he would facilitate summer transfers of players in his squad, and arrangements for Anderson will now be made. Personal terms will not be an issue.
Anderson’s focus is England and the World Cup and those involved are relaxed about the timings around the completion of the move.
There is no sell-on clause for Newcastle, who sold Anderson to Forest for £35m in 2024 as they scrambled to avoid breaching PSR rules.
