American boxer Isis Sio has been placed in a medically induced coma after she was brutally knocked out in California on Saturday night.
Sio, 19, was sent tumbling into the bottom rope following a series of explosive head shots from Jocelyn Camarillo in the first round of their women’s junior flyweight bout.
The referee immediately waved off the contest, which was scheduled for four rounds at National Orange Show Event Center in San Bernardino, before the teenager was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to a statement released Sunday by event promoter ProBox TV, Sio is in the intensive care unit of Loma Linda University Health medical center.
ProBox TV said that the organization, including CEO Garry Jonas, is praying for her to have a speedy recovery.
‘Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time,’ the statement said.

Camarillo commented on the statement shared on Instagram, writing: ‘Nothing but respect. Keeping her in my prayers and wishing her healing and a full recovery.’
Sio, from North Dakota, only made her professional debut in September of last year. She entered Saturday’s fight against Camarillo with a 1-3 record after also suffering a first-round knockout defeat from body punches in January.
The young fighter lost her debut on points before earning the first win of her career, a unanimous-decision victory over debutant Katelyn Radtka, in November.
Camarillo, who is signed with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, is now 7-4 after earning the first knockout win of her career.
‘Lord Jesus, we come before you with faith and urgency, lifting up Isis into your loving hands,’ she added about Sio.
‘Lord, you are the ultimate healer, the great physician, and we ask for your divine touch over her body in Jesus mighty name, amen. Please keep Isis in your prayers.’
