A Division-III college in Maryland is mourning the loss of their all-time winningest coach in men’s basketball after his battle with cancer.
McDaniel College coach Kevin Curley has passed away following his fight and was surrounded by his wife and three children in his final hours, according to a GoFundMe page set up for him.
‘His family is heartbroken by this loss and deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support so many have shown to Kevin and to them,’ wrote the fund’s organizer, Brett Foelber.
Curley, who spent over three decades coaching basketball, was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic esophageal cancer earlier this year.
He spent 19 seasons at McDaniel and racked up 214 wins, the most in the program’s history.
Curley played two seasons of college basketball at Penn State-Altoona before graduating from West Virginia University in 1996 with a master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in coaching.

The coach also spent some time at the Division-I level, serving as an assistant coach at Colgate University in upstate New York for nine seasons.
In his time at McDaniel, Curley won the Centennial Conference’s Coach of the Year award in 2009 and 2014.
He also made seven appearances in the Centennial Conference tournament and five appearances in the ECAC Tournament.
The GoFundMe set up for Curley has raised over $46,000 to help offset the medical and financial challenges his family is facing.
