- Songs from John Denver and Kenny Rogers could be played at the MCG
- Players from Geelong and Brisbane nominated their music choices
- Will follow goals in AFL Grand Final, many fans find it cringeworthy
Footy fans are up in arms after confirmation that music will be blared across the MCG when certain players boot goals in the AFL grand final.
Channel 7 AFL reporter Mitch Cleary tweeted the development – and it didn’t take long for supporters to vent their fury on X.
‘Another great decision by Andrew ‘Mickey Mouse’ Dillon. Get him out,’ posted one in response.
‘Has to be one of the most grating parts of the game. Can’t stand the songs, wish they would give it a spell,’ said another.
‘Songs after goals should be outlawed. The footy is the entertainment,’ a third weighed in with.
‘(A crowd of) 100,000 people but we want music to create an atmosphere? What are we doing,’ asked a fourth.

This supporter labelled the decision by the AFL ‘incredibly disheartening’ and fears for the future of the sport
North Melbourne great Corey McKernan spoke for many when he simply tweeted ‘why’ in response to the development
More than 100,000 fans will be at the MCG, with Geelong slight favourites to win their first flag since 2022
Triple M also announced the development on Friday night – and the feedback for the AFL was equally scathing.
‘A further erosion of the pureness of our great game. If you think that drowning out the crowd reaction in those seconds after a goal, especially in a grand final, enhances the experience, then you really don’t understand the game,’ offered one.
Another bluntly posted: ‘The dumbest thing ever. Let the crowd set the tone, not the players’ favourite songs. Stupid.’
The Daily Mail can reveal Brisbane forward Charlie Cameron’s favourite tune is John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads while teammate Zac Bailey’s go-to track is Hey Baby by DJ Otzi.
Geelong key forward Jeremy Cameron loves Kenny Rogers’ iconic song The Gambler, with captain Patrick Dangerfield opting for John Farnham’s You’re the Voice.
Cats pin-up Bailey Smith recently revealed his choice was Everybody Loves the Sunshine by Roy Ayers.
Meanwhile, both powerhouse clubs are chasing their fifth flag dating back to 2000.
Both have won four premierships since the turn of the century – with the Lions chasing back-to-back titles.
Geelong and Brisbane have never met previously in a season decider.
