Tiffany Salmond has revealed how an unnamed NRL star, who slid into her DMs, had completely turned her off by asking whether he could message her on Snapchat.
The former Fox League presenter made the revelation on Thursday after she explained last year that multiple footy players had sent her some very strange ‘sexually charged’ messages.
On Thursday, Salmond opened up on her conversation with the NRL player, whom she described as a ‘golden boy’ and had a very good reputation.
She claimed that it was strange that he had asked her for her Snapchat, given her previous comments on some of the sleazy messages that NRL players had sent her in the past.
‘On the topic, since I spoke about that last year, I did have an interaction with a very beloved player in the NRL, one that you would all like, everyone kind of likes him, he’s a ‘golden boy,’ and he has a pretty good reputation,’ the footy broadcaster said during a video posted on Instagram.
‘And so I also had a pretty good perception of him. I thought he was going to be a bit more mature, a bit more grounded. Wasn’t going to be sleazy and weird. He did just DM me straight out of the gate, asking: “So, why aren’t you on Fox League anymore?”

‘This was way before I had spoken out or said anything about my story.
‘It was better than what the others would do, sending me weird TikToks.
‘I had a good perception of him, but that slowly went downhill until he said: “So, are you a Snapchatter?”
The Kiwi footy reporter then sighed before adding: ‘That is probably the ultimate turn-off… for anyone!
Salmond dished up some advice to her male followers, claiming that they should not ask a grown woman for their Snapchat, inferring that it implies a sleazy motive.
‘She knows what you want to do on there. You’re not trying to have deep and meaningful conversations or actually try to get to know her.’
She explained that she had initially met the individual earlier in 2025, before he spoke to her again later in the year.
‘I thought that was quite bold for him to do that,’ she said.

‘I thought: “Aren’t you worried that you’re going to end up in the next article?” He must have not seen it… Silly him.’
‘As soon as he asked whether I am a Snapchatter, he burst the bubble of my hopeful expectation of him being different,’ Salmond added.
‘So, I normally would just ignore someone, I wouldn’t probably bother replying. But if you knew who he was, you’d understand why I gave him the benefit of the doubt.’
Earlier this year, rugby league fans had been left confused at why Salmond was no longer seen on Fox League’s NRL coverage at the start of the season.
She had previously worked as a touchline reporter with the New Zealand Warriors before she was abruptly dropped by the broadcaster. She later revealed that she felt she had been dropped because she was too ‘disruptive’.
It also came after she had found herself at the centre of Fox reporter Jake Duke’s high-profile breakup from 7News reporter Grace Fitzgibbon.
Salmond, who now lives in Sydney, went on to reveal some of the messages she exchanged with the unnamed NRL player.
‘I said: “I can’t believe people still use Snapchat, I’m more of a WhatsApper myself”. That was a strategic message because it was a subtle way of shaming him by even asking for my Snapchat.

‘If he’s only interested in pictures and disappearing messages, then he’s not going to be bothered with talking on WhatsApp, so he’ll just disappear and walk himself out.
‘But then he gave me his number and then I was like maybe he’s open to chatting. I sent him a message and… yeah…’
She also published a screen grab of their conversation on her Instagram story, revealing that she had not spoken to the player since.
‘Just so you know, I’m only here because I’m curious,’ the NRL player wrote, adding a winking face. Salmond replied: ‘I’m curious to see if you’d use this as a form of Snapchat.’
He responded: ‘And what would that entail?’ Salmond responded: ‘Maybe I’ve read the room wrong. Just in a mood my bad.’
She captioned the screen grab: ‘Making men squirm by asking them to explain themselves is my favourite pastime. And he never heard from me again.’
Salmond then wondered whether the player was ‘switched on’ to understand the message.
So, what do we think? Did he just not quite understand the point I was making about Snapchat? Was he not quite switched on upstairs?
‘Or is this a case of a man who is not used to getting what he wants from women?
‘There’s two really important lessons to learn from this scenario. For the men watching, if you want someone to be genuinely interested, do not suggest to talk on Snapchat because we know what that means and it’s extremely unattractive.
‘You could be the hottest, sexiest NRL player to ever exist and you’ll have me still looking at my phone like: “Ew”.
‘And for the ladies, if you have a rule that you follow, like if someone suggests Snapchat, I’ll immediately turn off and disengage, I broke my own rule. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and look where that got me. Don’t break your own rules.’
It comes as Salmond had recently revealed her surprise NRL crush, stating that there were several coaches that had left her feeling ‘slightly flustered’.
She did not reveal who they were, but said: ‘It always makes me giggle when I see comments assuming I must’ve had my eye on the players.
‘I’m not opposed to a bit of eye candy, don’t get me wrong.
‘But baby… if I was eyeing anyone? It was the coaches!’
