Man United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s net worth has dropped by an estimated £1.8billion over the past year, according to the new Sunday Times Rich List.

The Sunday Times lists Ratcliffe as the third biggest faller on the list behind Sir James Dyson and Anil Agarwal, with his wealth claimed to have fallen to £15.194bn.

It saw Ratcliffe drop to ninth on the list of the richest people in the UK, with his wealth estimated at £17bn in 2025.

The Sunday Times have deemed Ratcliffe’s wealth to have dropped in three consecutive years.

Ratcliffe, who owns the petrochemicals giant Ineos, was estimated to have been worth as much as £29.6bn back in 2023.

His wealth then saw successive drops of around £6bn in both 2024 and 2025.

‘Ineos, Ratcliffe’s sprawling petrochemicals empire, spans 27 countries,’ the Sunday Times latest Rich List stated.

‘As a result of rising debt, falling revenues and a £515.7 million loss, we have cut the value of the business to £17 billion.

‘Ratcliffe’s 29 per cent stake in Manchester United FC is worth £1.4 billion.’

Ratcliffe, who has control over sporting matters at Man United, has sold off a series of assets at Ineos in an attempt to ‘rebalance its portfolio’.

Ineos has shelved sponsorships with New Zealand’s rugby team, Tottenham and halted funding of Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup team.

Reports have claimed Ineos are also preparing to sell Ligue 1 side Nice.

Ineos recently announced a partnership with Shell to explore new oil and gas opportunities off the coast of the United States, with Ratcliffe telling the Sunday Times he is going to ‘hedge my bets’.

He also joked to the publication ‘How do you lose a small fortune? Answer: start with a big one and sink it into a car company’, when asked about his commitment to his Ineos Automotive business.

The billionaire’s running of Man United has proved controversial, with Ratcliffe overseeing drastic cost-cutting at the club, which led to hundreds of staff being made redundant.

Ratcliffe also caused controversy in February by claiming Britain has been ‘colonised’ by immigrants who are ‘costing too much money’.

He later apologised for his ‘choice of language’, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer among those to have criticised his remarks.

‘Me and my big mouth,’ Ratcliffe told the Sunday Times. ‘It wasn’t meant to be an inflammatory remark.

‘It was just meant to be a concern about the UK economy being stressed by a welfare cost it can’t really afford

‘Much of the value added in the UK has come from people who’ve moved here.

‘What you don’t want are lots of people coming in who are going to not work and not make a contribution, and you haven’t done due diligence on them.’

Ratcliffe is set to have the final say on Man United’s next permanent head coach.

Daily Mail Sport reported this week that Man United’s leadership team are set to recommend the club appoint Michael Carrick on a permanent basis.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox have been impressed by United’s upturn in form under their former player, who was given the job for the rest of the season following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

They are expected to tell Ratcliffe that Carrick, 44, is their preferred choice to take the job, and that his coaching staff – which includes former England assistant manager Steve Holland – should also remain at Old Trafford.
