England manager Thomas Tuchel was not afraid to air his anger at Djed Spence as his side disappointed against Ghana.

After the high of beating Croatia last week, the Three Lions failed to breach a rigid Ghana defence as they were made to settle for a point in their second match of the World Cup.

German Tuchel has set high standards for his side as they aim to finally break their 60-year drought of failing to win the title.

Footage has emerged of the England boss expressing his anger at Spence during the second-half, who was drafted in to start for the first time this tournament – at left back in place of Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly.

Tuchel shouted the Tottenham full back’s name five times while the ball was in play, with Spence reacting in confused fashion.

He put out his arms as if to signal he did not understand the message, to which an agitated Tuchel responded: ‘Give and go!’

Spence was eventually substituted in the 66th minute, replaced by O’Reilly, who would go on to hit the bar late on.

The defender, who refused to shake hands with rape-convicted Thomas Partey before the game, had a good match overall as he made his World Cup bow.

Tuchel, meanwhile, was coy following full-time, hiding his emotions as he spoke to the press.

‘We knew it would be difficult,’ he said. ‘They went even more defensive than in the first match – they defended in a 4-5-1. We found our intensity the longer the half went but we couldn’t get the reward.

‘We were very good at defending the counter-attacks for most of the match. We have to pay a huge amount of attention to that. Subs were very good.’

When asked what he would change for the Panama game, he replied: ‘I have no idea. Panama is in four days.’
