Prince Harry offered an unexpected moment of comfort on a flight to a grieving traveler.

Justine Parkhurst was flying home to North Carolina after attending her grandmother’s funeral in Sydney when she broke down in tears shortly after boarding a commercial flight out of the Australian city.

Parkhurst said the Duke of Sussex, who was seated beside her in first-class, then stepped in to console her.

“We chatted for a minute and I told him that my Nan is the only one I really wanted to tell about sitting next to the royal,” Parkhurst recalled in a Facebook post, according to the Daily Mail.

“He said, ‘She already knows.’”

The emotional exchange came after a last-minute change of plans.

Parkhurst and her husband had originally been booked on a different flight a day earlier but switched at the last minute — a decision that unexpectedly landed them in the first-class cabin of an American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER.

That just happened to be the same section where Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were seated following their recent Australian trip.

“My husband and I got super lucky and were upgraded to first class,” she said.

“While waiting to board … I will tell you that he was very nice and so was his wife.”

According to Parkhurst, she didn’t initially realize who was sitting beside her as she tried to compose herself.

“I’m always happy to get the upgrade for that long flight but I wished I had not been on the plane at all.”

“I didn’t even notice the person sitting next to me until they were adjusting the seat and getting comfortable,” she added. “It was Prince Harry.”

She said Markle was seated across the aisle in a single pod, while Harry occupied a middle-aisle seat next to her, placing him directly in position for their brief but meaningful exchange.

Parkhurst said Harry and Markle “were sweet to everyone and each other” on the flight. AP

“His wife was across from him and their security guards right behind them,” Parkhurst said.

She also described a visible but discreet security presence while boarding, saying she noticed two plain-clothed officers with firearms concealed beneath their jackets.

Despite that, she said the couple appeared relaxed and approachable throughout the experience.

“They were very nice,” she said. “They were sweet to everyone and each other.”

Harry and Markle had been wrapping up a four-day visit to Australia, where they were based at the InterContinental Coogee Beach Hotel, located roughly a 20-minute drive from Sydney International Airport.

For Parkhurst, what began as an emotionally draining journey quickly became something she now views in a different light.

“I believe he is right,” she said. “I bet [my grandmother] arranged the whole thing.”
