Newcastle United have agreed an £18.65million fee for Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.
The 20-year-old is due to have a medical ahead of completing terms and providing competition for Nick Pope.
Jaouen, a France U21 international, was also on Real Madrid’s radar but believes he can challenge for a first team place at St James’.
Aaron Ramsdale has gone back to Southampton, John Ruddy has left, and Odysseas Vlachodimos is back from loan with Sevilla but expected to be sold.
Ewen Jaouen of Reims is heading to Newcastle for £18.65m
Newcastle are continuing to target young players with the proviso that, if successful, they can go on to a grander stage as with Anthony Gordon and Barcelona.
They missed out on AIK winger Zadok Yohanna who opted for Brighton but have asked about 16-year-old Arsenal target Jeremy Monga at Leicester City and have opened talks with Osasuna for their speedy 22-year-old Spain winger Victor Munoz, formerly of Real Madrid.
They also remain in the frame for Atalanta’s Italy right-back Marco Palestra, who is a £40m target for Inter Milan.
Atalanta have asked about Nottingham Forest’s Nicolo Savona as a potential replacement for Palestra.
