New Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis went viral for the wrong reasons on Friday night after throwing an abysmal first pitch at a Marlins baseball game.
Willis, who signed with the Dolphins on a three-year, $67.5million contract in March, was savaged by fans on social media for his pitching gaffe at LoanDepot Park.
The 25-year-old carried out the ceremonial honors before Miami’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, even doing a full wind-up and wearing a glove for his big moment.
However, the execution was unfortunately disastrous.
Willis’ pitch was way off the mark, with the ball flying embarrassingly high and right, much to the bemusement of the crowd.
And fans quickly expressed their concern with his appalling effort.

‘This might be the worst first pitch ever. Let alone by an athlete,’ one user wrote on X.
Another said: ‘I’ll never …… ever understand how any male athlete on this planet throws a first pitch like this. There isn’t a doubt in my mind I would absolutely toss a potato with the fans watching, but I can’t grasp the concept of missing like this.’
‘Just a bit outside,’ joked another.
‘WTF is that,’ asked a fourth.
While another posted: ‘Dolphins gotta be worried’.
The Dolphins struck the deal to land Willis shortly after parting ways with Tua Tagovailoa and accepting an NFL-record $99m dead cap hit over the next two years.
The former Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans signal caller Willis has a three-year, $67.5m deal with $45 million guaranteed, despite going 2-1 in three starts over the last two seasons.
In those seasons with the Packers, he completed 79 percent of his passes for 972 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions in those contests.
Willis is in line to become the Dolphins’ 28th different starter since Dan Marino´s final season in 1999.
