Michael Rosen has urged parents to check all over their children’s bodies if they suspect they have meningitis symptoms, as he opened up about his son’s death aged 18 from the infection.
“It looked like flu. People talk about the rash and assume that it’s on your arms or chest, but I only found out when Eddie had died that the rash only appeared in his armpits.
Asked for his advice to parents, Mr Rosen urged: “Look everywhere, don’t be intrusive obviously, but armpits [are] not so intrusive. Ask your teenagers to look at their groin.
“The glass test is absolutely effective.”
The Meningitis Now charity says someone with a fever combined with a rash that does not fade under pressure from a glass needs urgent medical attention.
