Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a potential target for Aston Villa.
The 29-year-old England international has one year left on contract and his future remains unresolved.
Besiktas and AC Milan had also been monitoring developments with Gomez in recent months though the Italian club are going through an overhaul of their senior management and technical staff.
Villa have yet to make any official approach but it is understood Gomez appeals because of his versatility and if the price is right.
Unai Emery is expecting to upgrade his squad ahead of their Champions League campaign and will want more numbers to cope with the amount of games but they could also lose some players with interest around £80m-rated England international Morgan Rogers in particular.
Daily Mail Sport has already reported that Villa admire Manchester City’s James Trafford and Newcastle United’s Harvey Barnes as they sift through a list of potential targets.
For their part, Liverpool could ill afford to lose any more defenders but with only 12 months left on contract for Gomez, it may prove the best time to cash in.
Liverpool star Joe Gomez has emerged as a transfer target for Aston Villa this summer
They are actively looking for a right-back option with Conor Bradley facing a lengthy layoff with his knee injury and Jeremie Frimpong more suited to the role of winger or attacking wing-back.
Gomez almost left for Crystal Palace last summer in negotiations for Marc Guehi and was previously discussed by Newcastle in talks over Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool’s priority is to sign a winger, if not two, this summer with Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig and Bradley Barcola of Paris St Germain high on their list.
