Salford City boss Karl Robinson has apologised to the club’s supporters for “letting them down” in the League Two play-off final defeat to Notts County.

The Ammies, who finished the season a point and a place outside the automatic promotion places, had done the league double over the Magpies during the season and had won the previous five meetings between the sides.

But they were well beaten at Wembley, going down 3-0 and mustering just two attempts on target.

“I feel that we’ve let people down today,” he told Manchester.

“I don’t think we’ve let people down for the last 10 months, we’ve been nothing short of magnificent, but today we had too many who didn’t turn up.

“You can use so many excuses, but we were beaten by the better team.”
