Grant for businesses to carry out painting and/or power washing works, helping to enhance the look and feel of shopfronts and strengthen pride of place

Ards and North Down Borough Council has launched the Freshen Up Grant, which aims to support businesses to carry out cost-effective shopfront improvements.

These improvements include power washing and/or painting, to enhance visual appeal and create welcoming streetscapes in time for the summer season, attract more visitors and boost local economic activity.

The grant will provide 90% funding up to a maximum amount of £1,500 per property. A minimum 10% financial contribution is required from eligible applicants.

Any business or building owner paying commercial rates, operating in the urban centres of Bangor, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood and Newtownards, is eligible to apply.

The closing date for applications is midday on Friday 29 May 2026.

Find out more and apply for the Freshen Up Grant.
