Food safety events for small food businesses, and community and voluntary organisations

Derry City and Strabane District Council, in partnership with Safefood, is hosting two free information sessions on food safety on Wednesday 20 May 2026 in the City Hotel Derry. 

Food safety training for small food businesses 

This workshop for small food businesses, which takes place from 10am to 2pm, will provide up-to-date training on 

  • managing food allergens
  • cleaning and sanitisation
  • controlling food poisoning bacteria
  • pest control
  • basics of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) 

This is a great chance to learn from an experienced food safety trainer and connect with other small food businesses in your area. 

Food safety workshop for community and voluntary groups 

This workshop, taking place from 630pm to 9pm, is for representatives from community and voluntary groups, clubs, or societies. 

The event covers essential food safety for anyone using shared spaces or serving food, from small gatherings to large events with hot meals.
