Former Dally M Prop of the Year Martin Bella has launched a scathing attack on Dave Hughes for his stance on Labor’s tax change.
‘Munster’ has included the comedian in his list of ‘whingers’ for complaining about investor tax changes while the birth rate is falling.
Bella took to his own Facebook page to tell those upset with the change to ‘stop being so bloody selfish.’
His video comes after Dave Huges claimed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had ‘royally f***ed this joint’ with the CGT changes which had ‘tipped Australia over the edge.’
Among the bigger concerns put forward by the former Queensland prop was the falling birth rate.
Bella also called on those concerned with the tax change to think of ‘younger people rather than ourselves.’
Martin Bella called out those ‘whingeing’ about Labor’s tax change including comedian Dave Hughes
In his Facebook video Bella urges the ‘elites’ to be less ‘selfish’ and consider the younger generation
‘I want our politicians to be smart, the one that is displaying remarkable stupidity is Angus Taylor at the moment.
‘So he’s talking about as are others about how the changes to CGT and negative gearing has destroyed aspiration,
‘Well I’ll tell you something about aspiration, aspiration is about young people that cannot, that do not have the financial resource to buy a home.
‘Where do you think that is going to leave our society in just a few years?
‘It’s time we stopped our whinging – cue Dave Hughes – and started to think of younger people rather than ourselves.
‘Stop being so bloody selfish, and I’ll tell you what, that will actually be better for us in the long run.’
In the same impassioned speech on social media, ‘Munster’ revealed his concerns for the population, linking the financial struggles of the younger generation to a lack of growth in the population.
‘And you know aspiration, aspiration for what? You know, we’ve got a population issue.
‘Replacement is 2.1 children per woman, we are currently at 1.48 so our population is currently declining.
‘They are whinging about migration, we need migration to fill jobs because otherwise our population would decline.
‘And what are one of the factors with this decrease in the number of children people are having? It is the feeling of uncertainty for the future. The feeling of not having a safe place to raise children and that those children won’t be able to take advantage of a safe place to live or to grow up, stability all of those things.
‘This is what happens when politics gets dragged down to appealing to the emotive, the three-word slogans, rather than having a true strategy and looking at where we are going.
‘Make things more affordable. Let people be more able to have a stable home. Maybe the birth rate will increase but generally all those other social ills will heal themselves.
‘Absolutely ridiculous, the low standards our politicians, and Angus Taylor, you in particular, the low standards you are displaying.’
Dave Hughes claimed he had stopped voting Labor due to their changes to investor tax
He also claimed that a number of houses in his suburb had been put up for sale and that it was ‘bleak’
Bella’s video comes after Huhges told News.com.au, ‘I’ve always been a Labor voter,’ the 55-year-old Aussie TV icon said.
‘My dad was a factory worker, mum’s a nurse, so I grew up in that sort of working-class family and carried that through my whole life, long after I became financially independent.’
The stand-up comic said Australians were angry.
‘The budget has tripped people’s wires – it’s tripped my wires,’ Hughes said.
‘That budget was bang out of order. You cannot make a change to the tax system that big without taking it to the election.’
‘In my suburb [Bayside], every house has had a board up wanting to sell for months, even before the budget. The percentage correction happening in my area is f**king massive. It’s bleak.’
