An unnamed former South Australian professional athlete has pleaded guilty to assaulting a young boy.

The former sportsman from Adelaide’s southern suburbs, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was charged with committing aggravated assault that causes harm after assaulting the young boy.

The defence for the man told the court the assault came out of an incident involving the defendant and two young boys, who were in a dispute at the time.

An unnamed former South Australian former professional athlete has pleaded guilty to assaulting a young boy.

When asked by Magistrate Koula Kassiavelos how he pleaded, the defendant stood and said ‘guilty’ with a blank face.

The former professional sportsman’s identity was suppressed until sentencing submissions next month to avoid identifying family members.

However, the defence said they anticipated there would be an application at the time to extend the current interim supprresion order.

The Adelaide man will return to court on July for sentencing submissions.
