- David Mead heard ‘something click’ at his front door
Former NRL player David Mead has recounted how he chased a pair of intruders out of his house following a terrifying home invasion in the middle of Tuesday night.
The Brisbane Broncos great took to social media on Wednesday to publish CCTV footage showing two masked individuals breaking into his home at approximately 1.42am.
Mead, 37, his partner and his two young boys, aged six and 10, were in bed at the time the two crooks approached his front door.
The burglars appeared to break the lock, with one man seen slowly entering the premises.
Mead revealed that he was asleep at the time, but heard ‘something click’ and jumped into action.
Wearing only his underwear, Mead sped downstairs just as one of the crooks had entered his home.

The NRL great, who was only wearing his underwear at the time, said that he had heard his front door clicking while he was asleep
The burglar then doubled back out of the door when he heard Mead making his way down the stairs, appearing to tell the other man to ‘run’.
The pair, who were both barefoot, sprinted down the house’s footpath and jumped over the front gate into the street.
Mead, wearing only his underwear, followed the two burglars outside, but was unable to catch them. He made his way down the pathway and was heard shouting ‘hey’ as the intruders appeared to make it back to their vehicle.
A pair of screeching tyres were then heard as the crooks fled the scene.
Mead published the clip on his Instagram, captioning the video: ‘WHAT THE F***?!’
‘Attempted break-in last night at our house. Young fellas out there, don’t get involved with this c***. Don’t waste your future.’
Mead enjoyed a glittering career in the NRL, playing for the Gold Coast Titans, Brisbane Broncos.
He would also enjoy a spell in France with the Catalan Dragons. The versatile winger would retire in 2022 after making 230 professional rugby league appearances.
The former winger later revealed to Code Sports that he had been left terrified by the ordeal, adding that he was glad no one was injured.

Mead explained that his ‘instinct kicked into action’ when he heard the burglars in his home
‘We were asleep and heard something click, which, after reviewing the video, was the louvres next to the door,’ Mead told Code Sports.
‘Taneal woke up and said: “I think someone is in the house”. I heard the doorknob turn and then it clicked. I knew straight away someone was in the house.
‘I jumped out of bed and went around the corner, I saw the door closing and a shadow running. There are 18 stairs and I jumped most of them and tripped at the end.
‘You watch videos and think about what you would do – but it’s very different when it happens to you. Your instinct kicks in and your body just takes over.
‘I was in my jocks.’
‘I’ve got two boys, six and ten, which is the scary part. I’m just glad no one got hurt. If you hurt them, you can go to jail, or they could badly hurt you.’
