US defence secretary Pete Hegseth says the country’s military deserves to win the Nobel Peace Prize ‘every year’.

Addressing press at an Operation Epic Fury operational update yesterday (24 April) Hegseth was asked whether he would consider changing the title of the United States Department of War to the Department of Peace, in line with the Trump administration’s stated aims.

“The one institution that should win the Nobel Peace Prize every single year is the United States military,” replied Hegseth.

“We are the guarantor of the safety and security, not just of our country, but of a lot of people in this world.”

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has laid out Tehran’s demands for ending the war with the US during talks in Islamabad, according to reports.
