After more than 25 years of service across the NDA group and the wider UK nuclear sector, Rebecca Weston CB FREng will be leaving the group at the end of July for a new chapter in her career, working with organisations across the UK nuclear, defence and critical infrastructure sectors.

Rebecca has made an enduring contribution to the group, holding senior leadership and executive roles, including Chief Operating Officer at Sellafield Ltd, where she was accountable for major nuclear operations, leading some of the group’s most significant operations and programmes, and the site through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More recently, Rebecca was appointed as the first Director General Warhead within the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Nuclear Organisation, where she established the Warhead Group and led some of the UK’s most critical and complex work in support of UK defence and national security, working closely with AWE and partners in the US and France.

Rebecca continues to lead and influence the future of the UK’s nuclear sector through her role as a Non-Executive Director at Great British Energy Nuclear and as a member of the ministerially-chaired Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce Implementation Panel.

Rebecca’s impact has been recognised at the highest level through her appointment as a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours for services to defence.

David Peattie, Chief Executive of the NDA, said

Rebecca has made a lasting contribution to the NDA Group and to the wider nuclear sector. Her leadership and commitment have helped shape some important achievements for the group over more than two decades. On behalf of the NDA group, I thank her for her service and wish her every success in this exciting next chapter.

Euan Hutton, Chief Executive of Sellafield Ltd, said

I want to thank Rebecca for her outstanding contribution to Sellafield and the nuclear sector. I have worked closely with Rebecca for many years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, when her leadership helped guide the organisation through one of its most challenging periods. Her impact on our organisation and our people has been significant and lasting. On behalf of everyone at Sellafield, I thank Rebecca for her commitment and, personally, for her friendship.

Rebecca Weston CB said

I would like to thank everyone I have had the privilege of working alongside over the last 25 years. Sellafield, in particular, and the wider NDA group have shaped my professional life for the entirety of the 21st century to date, in ways for which I will always be grateful. It has been a privilege to contribute during some defining moments in the group’s history, including its formation and growth, and to work with so many talented and dedicated colleagues.

My time in defence nuclear has broadened my experience even further and reinforced my belief in the importance of effective collaboration across government, industry and the wider nuclear sector. As I begin the next chapter of my career, I look forward to applying that experience more widely. I will always remain a passionate advocate for the people and mission of the NDA group.

One thing I have learned throughout my career is that success in our sector is always built on teamwork, collective purpose and productive collaboration. ‘We win together or we lose together.’ I wish everyone across the NDA Group every success for the future. ‘Every Day Counts. Every One Counts.
