The Los Angeles Dodgers were on the brink of securing a win for the history books. But minutes later, their game against Baltimore Orioles flipped into the most gut-wrenching loss of the season.
Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was one out away from clinching a no-hitter and a 3-0 victory for the World Series champions before Jackson Holliday hit a solo home run.
Yamamoto was removed after that and received a standing ovation by fans of both teams as Blake Trienen took to the mound. There still hasn’t been a no-hitter in the major leagues in 2025.
But Trienen failed to get the one out required and then, with the bases loaded, Orioles third baseman Emmanuel Rivera walked off the Dodgers with a hit up the middle from Tanner Scott for a two-run single.

But moments later, the Baltimore Orioles were celebrating a sensational victory
But it was Treinen who will have to take the blame for this Dodgers loss. After relieving Yamamoto, he gave up a double to Jeremiah Jackson, hit Gunnar Henderson and walked Ryan Mountcastle and Colton Cowser to make it 3-2.
The Dodgers didn’t have to make any spectacular plays behind Yamamoto to preserve his no-hit bid, although Alex Jackson hit a sharp line drive to left fielder Alex Call in the sixth.
Yamamoto joined the Dodgers last season after signing a $325 million, 12-year contract in December 2023. He had a no-hitter broken up in the seventh against Arizona in May.
The Dodgers lead the National League West by only one win after Saturday’s loss – they are ahead of the San Diego Padres.
But more concerningly, it’s a fifth straight loss for the Dodgers as the regular season hits the closing stretch.
