Bill Belichick earned his first win as North Carolina head coach on Saturday, before issuing a stern message to the Patriots – all in the absence of Jordon Hudson.
In stark contrast to their season opener, Belichick and the Tar Heels stormed to an emphatic 20-3 victory against the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday night.
Former Patriots coach Belichick will be delighted to finally get off the mark in college football – after UNC’s humiliating defeat in their season-opener on Monday night.
However, he won’t be expecting any praise from his former side. After the game, he confirmed that he has banned Patriot scouts from accessing the Tar Heel program.
When asked about the situation, Belichick said: ‘Well it’s clear that I’m not welcome around their facility. So, they’re not welcome at ours. It’s pretty simple’.
Reports had circulated earlier in the week regarding the potential ban – before Belichick confirmed it on Saturday.

After a humbling first outing as North Carolina head coach, Belichick finally got off the mark in North Carolina with the convincing win over the 49ers.
UNC got off to a fast start thanks to QB Gio Lopez, who completed two short passes before firing a deep ball to Chris Culliver, who beat his man for the touchdown.
However, the Heels offense faded up until the final moments of the first-half, when Davion Gause broke free off left tackle and scampered 12 yards for the touchdown.
It put the Tar Heels firmly in the driving seat at half-time and they ensured that there were no slip-ups as they saw out the emphatic win after the break.
For UNC, it’s a welcome change from their embarrassing defeat on Monday night, which saw the TCU Horned Frogs wrap up a 48-14 victory over Belichick.
Even with Michael Jordan and other Tar Heels royalty on hand for Bill Belichick’s North Carolina debut, it was the other Jordon – the coach’s 24-year-old girlfriend and de facto publicist – who captured the spotlight in Chapel Hill on Monday night.
However, there was no sign of Belichick’s girlfriend on Saturday. If she was in attendance, she managed to do so without being caught by broadcast cameras.
If so, it would be a far cry from the Tar Heels’ opening game where Hudson was front-and-center throughout their defeat to the Horned Frogs.
Belichick’s girlfriend Hudson, 24, was seen watching from a VIP suite on the night – but left with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, as UNC self-combusted.

Hudson made her first in-game appearance in Chapel Hill on Monday afternoon
The couple and their 49-year age gap romance were the focal point of many handmade signs and tshirts inside Kenan Memorial Stadium on Monday.
One flag read ‘Air Jordon’ and featured the silhouette of Belichick’s infamous beach yoga pic with Hudson , in which the 73-year-old laid down in the sand while lifting his younger girlfriend above his head with his feet.
Other references to Hudson included a personalized ‘Jordon’ No. 23 football jersey worn by one woman, and a t-shirt reading: ‘Hair Jordan: ‘We’re not talking about this.”
The quote is a reference to Belichick’s doomed CBS interview in which Hudson shut down any discussion of how the couple met after his fallout with ex-girlfriend Linda Holliday in 2023.
The ill-fated CBS interview sparked a national debate over Hudson’s intentions over the summer.
North Carolina lured Belichick to Chapel Hill with a five-year, $50 million million contract to boost its athletic profile.
