The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason has taken a troubling turn following the arrest of safety Markquese Bell on multiple drug-related charges in North Texas.

Bell was taken into custody on Friday in the Dallas suburb of Prosper, according to records released by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office this morning.

The 27-year-old faces a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, records show.

Specific details regarding the circumstances of the arrest, including the nature of the controlled substance or the police stop, have not yet been released.

The Cowboys have not issued an official statement regarding Bell’s status.

Under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, Bell could face a multi-game suspension or significant fines depending on the outcome of the legal proceedings.

Bell’s journey to the NFL was already marked by a checkered past, starting with a high-profile suspension during his collegiate career at the University of Maryland.

After leaving the Terrapins before ever playing a snap, he spent time at Coffeyville Community College before eventually finding success at Florida A&M.

Despite his talent, Bell went undrafted in 2022, eventually signing with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent and fighting his way onto the active roster.

He quickly became a reliable ‘hybrid’ player for former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, often moving between the safety and linebacker positions.

Last season, Bell was a consistent contributor, appearing in all 17 regular-season games and playing roughly 32 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

His impact was felt most on special teams, where he was a fixture for the Cowboys, participating in 63 percent of the unit’s total plays throughout the year.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the Dallas Cowboys for comment.
