Chelsea Handler says she once told a flagrant lie about Goldie Hawn.
Hosting a gala honoring the actress, Handler said she concocted a tale in 3rd grade that she was scouted to play Hawn’s daughter in the sequel to “Private Benjamin,” in order to boost her playground popularity. And it worked!
“They all believed her and treated her like a queen, and she was nominated for Girl Scout troop leader as a result,” the source at the Children’s Oncology Support Fund’s Aspen Snow Ball told us.
Meanwhile, the comedian said she later found a way to get close to her for real. Handler joked that she “single white female’d” her way into Hawn’s social circle after connecting with the “Overboard” star’s longtime partner, Kurt Russell.
“She said she’s convinced they are her real parents,” the source said.
Hawn’s actual daughter, Kate Hudson, was unable to perform that evening, “as her voice was shot from Oscar week and award season,” an insider told us. She sent a video message to her mom.
Meanwhile, Russell, who celebrated his birthday over the weekend, was the first to stand up and applaud after Hawn accepted her award.
We’re told the couple hit the dance floor and boogied down to Wilson Phillips who performed their hit “Hold On,” and Abba’s “Dancing Queen.” Russell even FaceTimed Hudson to show her their performance of “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.
Rumer Willis and Brandi Carlile also performed.
