Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only member of his family fighting to get back to full health.
His wife Brittany has announced that she has been diagnosed with a troubling wrist issue that she had been ignoring for a year, caused in part by being a mom.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his wife, childhood sweethearts, have three children together – Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3 and Golden Raye, 1.
Brittany explained that after deciding enough was enough with her wrist pain following a midweek workout, she finally reached out to a doctor for some help.
She then shared her diagnosis of De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, known more commonly as ‘Mother’s Wrist’, caused by repetitive lifting and hormonal changes.
‘To find out I have this… been battling it for probably around a year now thinking it will just get better,’ Mahomes, 30, wrote on social media.

‘Well it never did and started to get pretty bad… so now,’ she added, before continuing her message in a separate post that revealed she has to wear a wrist brace: ‘I get to wear this cool thing.’
According to the Mayo Clinic, De Quervain tenosynovitis ‘is a painful condition that affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist.’
It comes amid her husband Patrick’s ongoing battle to be healthy enough for the start of the 2026 NFL season after tearing his ACL last December.
Mahomes has shown promising progress and the Chiefs are optimistic that come September, the three-time Super Bowl winner will be in a promising position.
NFL reporter James Palmer of Bleacher Report said on Thursday that the quarterback is ‘ahead of schedule in a lot of people’s minds.
‘This is all pointing towards him playing in Week 1. I think it really is, from everybody I’ve talked to. It’s not going to be rushed. There’s still a lot of time between now and then, but that’s where things seem right now.’
The Chiefs failed to make the playoffs last season but have reloaded emphatically in the offseason.
They swooped for Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker – the former Seattle Seahawks running back was a free agent after February’s victory against New England Patriots.

Patrick is also recovering from a torn ACL sustained last December playing for the Chiefs
Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga and safety Aholi Gilman were also added in free agency and they drafted cornerback Mansoor Delane and defensive tackle Peter Woods in the first round last month.
Furthermore, in an undoubtedly popular move for both Patrick and Brittany, their close friend Travis Kelce signed a one-year extension to keep playing, too.
The latest issue isn’t the first that Mahomes has struggled with due to pregnancy.
In 2024, she said she had a ‘broken back’ caused by pelvic issues. She also revealed that diagnosis on Instagram, writing at the time: ‘Just a daily reminder: Once you have kids please take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously. From: A girl with a fractured back.’
That was after Mahomes had her second child. Golden Raye arrived in January 2025 and Brittany was back at a Chiefs game just days after, signaling a prompt recovery from the arrival of her third baby.
