Two Brentford players were left bloodied after rushing to help a man who was allegedly being assaulted in south-west London, according to a report.

The incident is said to have taken place in the early hours of Sunday morning and the players involved were from the first team, though they have not been named.

According to The Telegraph, the alleged assault is said to have been racially motivated and happened at around 2am in Richmond.

The players are understood to have rushed over to help the alleged victim as they travelled back from Brentford’s 0-0 draw with Leeds in the Premier League. Neither player suffered further injuries that required treatment.

They were described as completely healthy later on Sunday, but witnesses said they were left bloodied.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police attended a report of an assault on Queen’s Road, Richmond at around 02:00hrs on Sunday, 22 March. Officers engaged with the victim. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.’

The players are understood to have been allowed to make their own travel arrangements from Elland Road in Leeds, which is where the game was played.

The international break follows this round of domestic fixtures, meaning players will be jetting off around the world to play for their national teams.

Brentford’s draw, meanwhile, leaves them seventh in the Premier League table as they chase European qualification for next season.

Keith Andrews’ side are two points off Chelsea in sixth, and level on points with Everton in eighth.

A seventh-place finish will be enough to qualify for Europe next season.

Brentford declined to comment when approached by Daily Mail Sport.
