Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese went out of her way to clap back at a X user with less than 300 followers after she was mocked for missing layups.
After a season where she performed well – just missing out on Rookie of the Year to Caitlin Clark – Reese was subject to criticism throughout her debut campaign as a professional.
That’s continued to now, when a random account with 260 followers at the time of publishing decided to respond to a tweet of Reese’s.
Instead of letting the comment from the stranger – named Adam – go, Reese decided to quote tweet the post with a response of her own.
Reese said, ‘do you realize I got drafted 7th in my class while ‘missing layups’ as a ROOKIE shooting 39% on the year & was STILL a [sic] all star and that was the worst you’ll ever see me??? or you just laid up with your dog at home hating Adam??’
That drew mixed responses in her mentions – with some celebrating her and others mocking her impassioned defense of her poor shooting line.
Angel Reese clapped back at some haters on social media who criticized her shooting
‘[Angel Reese] = leader + competitor + great teammate …scary her best is yet to come!’ one fan wrote.
But detractors responded as well: ‘I’m really not trying to hate at all but 39% as a post player is absurd work.’
Reese came out of college at LSU with plenty to work on in the WNBA, but she quickly became one of the best rebounders in the league.
She finished the season leading the W in rebounds and averaged a double-double in spite of her shooting struggles.
Reese also became the first player in the league’s history with three consecutive 20-plus rebound games.
But her season ended prematurely when she went down with a wrist injury with only a few games left in the campaign.
But Reese looks healed up and ready to compete in the Unrivaled 3×3 basketball league – where she was drafted to Rose BC.
