- Dane Swan suggests footy show for ‘degenerate gamblers’
- Footy great’s followers seemed enthusiastic about the idea
AFL legend Dane Swan has reacted to the big jump in footy panel shows on TV by calling for a new program that’s centered around sports betting for ‘degenerate gamblers’.
The 2011 Brownlow medalist, who is known for his larger-than-life personality off the pitch, took to X on Monday night to propose the idea and voice his frustration about the type of footy shows that are currently on offer.
‘There’s now a million footy shows on that repeat that same s**t, which is fine for most but surely there has to be a dedicated show to gambling for us degenerates,’ he said.
‘So many only care about 1 team and then how we can win money off of the others.’
The 41-year-old Collingwood hero directed the tweet at broadcasters 7AFL and Fox Footy and has already had lots of positive feedback from the public.
‘Make it happen,’ replied one X user.

‘About time someone spoke some sense,’ posted another.
‘Agree and don’t watch any,’ posted a third.
The premiership winner was referring to the big jump in the number of AFL discussion shows, with Seven broadcasting The Agenda Setters, Unfiltered, Extra Time, Sunday Footy Feast, Kane’s Call and The Wash Up.
Fox is airing AFL 360, On The Couch and AFL Tonight, with Nine offering Footy Classified and The Sunday Footy Show.
Swan, who’s never shied away from his love of a punt, developed a reputation as one of the AFL’s true party boys during his career – and in 2019 admitted that he secretly drank alcohol at footy recovery sessions during his playing days.
‘I turned up, no matter how f**ked I was,’ Swan told the Hump Day with Scotty and Swanny podcast.
‘I remember sitting (at the club) there in recovery one morning at like 9am. I’d been at a party.
‘I left the party, grabbed a Gatorade bottle, filled it up three quarters Gatorade, one quarter vodka and sat on the bikes doing recovery drinking vodka Gatorade – just waiting to go back to the party.’

Swan went on to say that he had little choice but to drink during the recovery session.
‘If I hadn’t have topped up I would’ve been f**ked by the time I got back to the party, and I wouldn’t have gone. And the unfortunate thing was the party was at my house, so there was nothing I could do about it. I had to go.’
