Background
The UK–Thailand Women in STEM Awards aim to recognise and support outstanding early to mid-career women researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) who have demonstrated research excellence, leadership, and commitment to strengthening UK–Thailand collaboration.
The Awards are delivered by the British Embassy Bangkok, in partnership with Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The programme contributes to strengthening research, innovation and people-to-people links between the UK and Thailand, while promoting women’s leadership and visibility in STEM.
About the UK-Thailand Women in STEM Awards
The UK-Thailand Women in STEM Awards aims to fund a short visit to the UK for women researchers from Thailand to advance STEM collaboration between Thailand and the UK.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications will be open to women researchers who currently or previously hold Thailand Research Fund scholarships and meet the following criteria
- Identify as a woman;
- Hold Thai nationality;
- Be an early to mid-career full-time researcher (within 15 years of acquiring their PhD);
- Work in a STEM-related discipline; and
- Preferably has experience of collaboration with the UK in an academic, research, innovation, policy, or professional context.
- The selected applicant must be able to obtain appropriate visas to enter the UK prior to travelling to the UK otherwise the award will be cancelled.
- The visit must be completed by 15 February 2027, with all payments made and receipts submitted to the British Embassy Bangkok by 28 February 2027.
Eligibility checks will be applied upon the receipt of the applications. Applications which do not meet the criteria will be rejected during these checks. If you are unsure with your eligibility, please contact the British Embassy Bangkok.

The call is open to women applicants across all STEM disciplines.
Funding and Financial Arrangements
Further details on the funding value and eligible costs will be provided to successful applicants.
Funding will be administered in line with British Embassy Bangkok regulations. Grants will be paid directly to an individual account, with a maximum funding level of £3,000 for one person only. Payments will be made on a reimbursement basis, and successful applicants will be required to submit original receipts to claim expenses. Reimbursements will be processed via the applicant’s PayPal account.
The following section details the costs that are covered by the award
- Roundtrip international airfare (economy class) to the UK;
- UK visa fee (Standard service only);
- Subsistence for the period of stay in the UK;
- Travel insurance;
- Costs for accommodation and other daily expenses such as local transport; and
- Other expenses directly related to the visit, e.g. fees for using a laboratory or attending a class.
Note
- Costs beyond the above arrangements will be borne by the award holders themselves.
- Successful applicants will accept full responsibility for all aspects of the visit and must take out adequate insurance for themselves to cover risks associated with travelling abroad, including unexpected or uncontrollable events. The British Embassy Bangkok will not be liable for the consequences of any such risks or any costs incurred during the visit.

Key Timeline
- 22 May to 22 June 2026 Applications are open for submission.
- 22 June onwards Applications are assessed by the selection committee.
- 3 July Results are announced via email.
- 17 July Award ceremony in Bangkok. Award recipients must be able to attend the ceremony.
- By 1 Dec 2026 Confirm visit plan at least 45 Days before departure.
- By 15 Feb 2027 Deadline for visit to be concluded.
- 28 Feb 2027 All payments to be spent and receipts submitted.
- 15 March 2027 Visit report submitted.
Application Process
Submissions by email or letter will not be accepted.
Applicants must submit a completed online application form. Deadline for submission is 22 June 2026 (4.00pm Thailand time).
Selection Criteria
Applications will go through an eligibility check by the British Embassy Bangkok against the given criteria in these guidelines. Eligible applications then are reviewed by the British Embassy Bangkok and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) against the following criteria
Impact in STEM
- The impact of your work on your community, profession, industry and country of entry, including how it has contributed to knowledge creation, skills development, technological advancement, sustainability, or evidence based decision-making.
Support for women leadership
- Actions, initiatives, or mentorship you or your projects have provided to empower women in STEM.
Collaboration between Thailand and UK
- Demonstrated past collaboration or partnership with the UK, especially projects which aligns with UK priorities.
Visit plans
- The extent to which the visit will contribute towards developing a long-term sustainable research and education partnerships between Thailand and the UK.
- How the visit adds value to the current PhD research, and the benefits to both parties.
- The proposed agenda is appropriate for the funds provided.
Data Protection
The British Embassy Bangkok will use the information provided in the application for processing the application, making any consequential award, for the award payment, monitoring, maintenance and review.
Information provided by applicants may be shared with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and relevant UK Government partners, where necessary, to support the management of the application, selection, and monitoring processes. All selection and monitoring decisions will be made jointly by the British Embassy Bangkok and MHESI.
Applicants will be asked to consent to
- Information relating to successful applications being made publicly available on official websites, reports, and publicity materials relating to the programme.
- Being contacted in the future regarding related opportunities or programmes administered by the British Embassy Bangkok or its partners.
All personal data will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation. Under relevant data protection laws, applicants have the right to request access to the personal information held about them and to request corrections to any inaccurate information.
