Sir David Beckham has dutifully defended his wife after the former Spice Girl’s somewhat subdued reaction to a crucial World Cup moment went viral.
The former Manchester United player, his wife Victoria and three of their four children watched England’s match against Norway from a VIP section of the Miami Stadium on Saturday night (11 July).
As you’d expect, Jude Bellingham’s extra-time winner, bringing England up to a 2-1 triumph, sparked huge celebrations in the Beckhams’ box, with David leaping out of his seat and punching the air.
But, showing true commitment to her personal brand of nonchalance, Posh Spice was notably subdued and remained seated, before casually reaching for her phone to snap a picture.
Photos of her (essentially nonexistent) “celebration” soon went viral online, with comedian Jenny Johnson pulling in thousands of likes for a tongue-in-cheek post on Instagram that read: “There’s nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile! It’s so infectious!”
“I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water! Each time I see her I shout, ‘SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!!!’ because her energy is electric!!!” she joked.
David has now responded, proving his own sense of humour by commenting with a string of laughing face emojis alongside the explanation: “She was celebrating inside I promise, her reactions were slightly slower than mine.”
Victoria has previously explained why she always seems so stony-faced, claiming her husband always stands on her good side, which is the side that she chooses to smile on.

“Now I didn’t realise that when I smile – which I do! – I smile from the left, because if I smile from the right, I look unwell,” she said in her husband’s Netflix documentary. “So I’m smiling on the inside but no one ever sees it. So, that’s why I look so moody.”
The former Spice Girl has enjoyed – or should that be endured? – more than her fair share of football matches, and this World Cup marks 20 years since she led a gang of WAGs at the Baden-Baden tournament in 2006.

Speaking in 2024, the singer-turned-designer admitted she’s not exactly a huge football fan, telling the Financial Times this has only changed since David launched Inter Miami CF in 2018.
“I never enjoyed watching football,” she confessed. “I never felt necessarily wanted [at the matches]. I’m not saying this as in, poor me, but it was never the fun that it is now.
“Now, when we’re in Miami, I feel wanted. I’m friends with the families of the players.”
The Beckhams attended England’s match against Norway with their three youngest children: Romeo, Cruz and Harper. The eldest of the clan, Brooklyn, was notably absent amid their long-running family feud.

After years of persistent rumours of a fallout, the 27-year-old confirmed he was no longer on speaking terms with his parents in January, claiming in a bombshell-packed Instagram post that they had been trying to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, for years.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he wrote. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
David and Victoria have largely avoided addressing the drama. When asked about the feud in an interview in April, Victoria replied: “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children.
“And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
