The Boys fans are set to be doubly disappointed as it’s not just the superhero satire that’s coming to an end – spin-off Gen V won’t be returning for a third outing.

The black comedy first aired in 2023, following the young superheroes of Godolkin University School of Crimefighting as they learnt to harness their powers. Despite receiving rave reviews for both series one and two, executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg confirmed that Godolkin’s doors will be closing for good.

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” they said in a statement to Deadline. “You’ll see them again.”

The Independent has contacted Amazon Prime Video for comment.

The Boys, which debuted in 2019, is based on the comic book of the same name, following the titular team of vigilantes as they try to defeat the Supes – a group of corporate superheroes who abuse their powers and work for Vought International.

The hit show is currently airing its fifth and final series, which features a number of Gen V characters after they were recruited by one of the Boys, Annie January (Erin Moriarty), to fight against Supe leader Homelander’s tyrannous rule.

Gen V was critically acclaimed when it landed on our screens three years ago, earning a 97 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While critics hailed it as an “extraordinary” spin-off, with IGN praising it for doing a “tremendous job expanding on themes from The Boys that beg for deeper analysis”.

It made stars of its young cast, including Marie Moreau’s Jaz Sinclair, Emma Meyer’s Lizze Broadway and Maddie Phillips who plays Cat Dunlap.

Tragedy struck ahead of its second series when star Chance Perdomo, who played Andre Anderson, died in a motorcycle accident aged 27 in March 2024. Gen V’s creative team chose not to recast his role, saying in a statement: “No one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honour Chance and his legacy this season.”

Although The Boys and Gen V won’t be back on our screens next year, the franchise will live on with Vought Rising – an upcoming spin-off about the origins of the corporation. Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, and Stormfront’s Aya Cash are set to reprise their roles in the new series, which Prime Video teases as “a twisted murder mystery” that explores “the early exploits of Soldier Boy and the diabolical manoeuvres of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront”.
