New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. felt the wrath of manager Aaron Boone after he bizarrely played with a lollipop in this mouth.

Chisholm was playing second base during the Yankees’ 5-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.

When the cameras cut to him in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bahamian star was busy sucking on a lollipop while playing defense.

The information clearly got back to Boone, who was later asked about it after his team slipped to their third loss in a row.

Clearly not impressed, Boone said: ‘That p***es me off’. It didn’t help Chisholm’s case that, at the plate, he went 1-4 with two strikeouts.

Fans also destroyed Chisholm on social media, with one commenting: ‘I blame the coaching staff and the lackluster culture of this organization.

‘This is beyond embarrassing to the Yankees and to baseball. I know people will say “but he’s a grown man” and I respond no he’s not. This club has been lost. It’s not about YOU, it’s about the Yankees!’

Another posted: ‘Absolutely ridiculous. Unprofessional and deserving of replacement right then and there’.

‘I’ve lost so much respect for Boone,’ a third added. ‘What he allows is wild.’

The lollipop incident is surprising, given recent events should have forced Chisholm to be concentrating even harder on the ball.

Last week, he fouled a curveball off his groin. Asked Friday to describe his pain level at the time of the incident, Chisholm responded: ‘a million.’

Following the game, Chisholm admitted he’s never worn a cup, not even in the minors, where the protection is mandatory and said he would be refusing to bow to baseball custom.

‘If you don´t trust your hands, I would recommend wearing a cup,’ Chisholm said.

‘I feel like it´s more defensively that you would wear a cup than hitting. At the same time, I just never thought about wearing a cup.’

‘I’ve never worn a cup,’ Chisholm said. ‘I’m not going to change. Just an unlucky instance right there.’
