World Cup cult hero Vozinha is set to complete a move to famous Chilean side Colo Colo despite links to David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

The 40-year-old was one of the heroes of Cape Verde’s surprise run to the last-32 stage before they were beaten 3-2 by Argentina after extra-time.

As well as keeping a clean sheet against Spain and Saudi Arabia, Vozinha made 18 saves across the tournament and outperformed his xG against by 0.9.

His standout performances were among the highlights of Cape Verde’s debut appearance at the World Cup.

At the start of the Spain match in Cape Verde’s World Cup opener, he only had 50,000 followers on Instagram, but after making a memorable seven saves, that number dramatically increased, with Vozinha now having 28.6million followers.

FIFA announced last week that Vozinha had been named in the World Cup’s team of the tournament.

Vozinha had been without a club heading into the tournament after leaving Portuguese second division team Chaves at the end of last season.

His availability led to speculation over a possible move to join Messi at Inter Miami, with Vozinha asked about the possibility in a television appearance after the tournament.

‘I love football to still be here at 40 years old is because I truly have this passion,’ Vozinha said.

‘I want to play for at least another one or two years, depending on how my body feels and reacts.

‘We never know what tomorrow brings, but I want to keep playing.

‘I just hope I can find a club that truly wants me as a footballer, not for marketing purposes.’

Vozinha is now expected to complete a move to Chile’s most successful club Colo Colo, who have won a record 34 league titles.

Anibal Mosa, president of Blanco y Negro, the company that manages the Chilean club revealed Vozinha is due to fly to Santiago in the coming days to complete the move.

‘Vozinha is going to be a Colo Colo player,’ Mosa said.

‘In the next few days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the necessary medical examinations, and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental.’

Colo Colo are currently 12 points clear at the top of Chile’s Liga de Primera.

Vozinha has had a nomadic career, playing for clubs in his homeland, Moldova, Slovakia, Cyprus and Portugal’s second tier and he has won 94 caps for Cape Verde.
