A 4th of July weekend firework show at a women’s soccer game took a turn for the worse in Los Angeles on Friday night after pyrotechnics went shooting into the crowd.
Following Angel City FC’s 2-0 win over the Orlando Pride, fans were left scrambling for cover when the post-match firework display went dangerously wrong at BMO Stadium.
The initial fireworks launched into the sky as hundreds of spectators waited behind to watch the show, yet they were quickly forced to make a run for it when the flames started misfiring into the stands.
A number of fans shared footage of the terrifying moment on social media, with one writing alongside their video: ‘Marked safe from Angel City’s firework show’.
One user on Reddit also posted: ‘The end is actually the worst. I saw several flames go into the crowd. It was terrifying!’
Another wrote: ‘2 hours later and I’m still shaking. The dad next to me dove to cover his kids. Super scary and will have PTSD hearing fireworks in the future.’

According to The California Post, one stray firework shot towards the section where Angel City co-founder Julie Uhrman was sitting with team staff and family guests.
Another is said to have struck a stadium security guard on the pitch, though reports suggest no major injuries were reported by anyone.
‘A fireworks malfunction did occur during last night’s post-match celebration at Angel City FC’s game vs. Orlando at BMO Stadium. Our medical and safety teams were on site and ready to respond,’ a spokesperson for the NWSL team said.
‘Stadium operations confirmed the venue was secure and guests, staff, players, and crew were able to depart safely.
‘We are working closely with our pyrotechnics vendor to review the incident and evaluating appropriate next steps.’
