  • A wild brawl has erupted at an Under 7s football match in Sydney’s south-west
  • Police were called to break up the brawl between several spectators on Saturday

Five people have been charged by police after a wild brawl erupted at an Under 7s football tournament in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday.

Fairfield Hotspurs had been hosting the tournament when the fight erupted on the side of the pitch during a match between Marconi Juniors and South West Wanderers at Prospect View Park.

Police state that they were called at 11.50am to deal with the matter. After arriving, officers are understood to have separated three people involved in the brawl as well as other attendees and officials who had intervened.

A man and a woman were both left with minor injuries after the fight and required medical assistance from NSW Ambulance Paramedics but were not taken to hospital.

Five individuals were taken to Fairfield Police Station, with officers charging two women, aged 31 and 38, and two men, aged 39 and 42, with affray.

A 30-year-old man was also charged with offensive conduct.

Police were called to break up a wild brawl in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday, after spectators at an Under 7s football tournament began fighting

Five individuals have now been charged over the brawl and will appear in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday May 21

Five individuals have now been charged over the brawl and will appear in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday May 21

The individuals were all granted bail and will appear at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday, May 21.

Fairfield Hotspur’s treasurer Nic Liberatore told The Sydney Morning Herald that no Fairfield Hotspurs players were involved.

‘It is currently under investigation,’ he added, with both he and the club declining to speak further on the matter.

Southern Districts Football Association told Nine that the matter is under investigation and would be referred to its judiciary. They added that they did not condone the behaviour.

Police have asked members of the public with any information on the matter to contact Fairfield City Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It comes after a shocking brawl between parents broke out on the sidelines of a junior girls rugby league grand final last September – with police being called to the scene.

The match was subsequently abandonned.
