The Washington Commanders were brutally trolled by its own fans on Friday for posting about star wide receiver Terry McLaurin less than a day after he requested a trade away from the franchise.
McLaurin and the Commanders are currently in contract talks after one of their best players wanted a raise on the final year of his deal, where he will earn $16million in 2025.
As part of the negotiations, McLaurin requested a trade, a more common move to get team’s to fork over more cash, in line with what Myles Garrett and Lamar Jackson have recently done.
The Commanders have stated they have no interest in trading McLaurin and the social media team continued its typical posts.
On Friday, coincidentally, McLaurin was named the No 52 best player in the league as part of the ‘NFL 100’, with the team recognizing the accomplishment.
That decision led to a barrage of comments from Commanders fans about the standoff between the star man and his employer.

The team highlighted wide receiver Terry McLaurin the day after he requested a trade away
‘He going to be checking out if yall don’t pay the man,’ one Washington fan said.
‘Yall shouldn’t have posted this,’ a second stated.
‘How are you posting this and he doesn’t even want to be on the team lol,’ a third continued.
‘Crazy that the team would highlight this right now,’ a fourth added.
‘He should be in Washington for life. Pay him,’ former Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III concluded.

McLaurin was the top target for rookie sensation Jayden Daniels last year, hauling in 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.
His productivity helped Washington have its best season in over 30 years and reach the NFC Championship Game.
Other huge paydays for NFL wide receivers, and McLaurin turning 30 in September, have complicated the talks between the sides.
Yet, it appears McLaurin is not going anywhere as the team’s brass would be dumb not to find a way to have him on the field for Week 1.
