Tennis fans have been left stunned after a routine broadcast segment devolved into a tense on-air clash between former stars Coco Vandeweghe and Chris Eubanks.

The exchange took place on the Tennis Channel, where the two analysts were meant to be discussing serve speeds and player performances.

Instead, viewers watched in disbelief as Eubanks appeared to snap at Vandeweghe’s commentary style, leading to an awkward moment that went viral on social media.

The tension began when Vandeweghe challenged Eubanks on his serving ability, prompting a pointed response from the former Wimbledon quarterfinalist.

‘Is this going to be a thing now, like we’re just gonna keep every week being like, “Oh, can you break 103mph?”‘, Eubanks said on the broadcast.

Vandeweghe replied: ‘We could go back out today and try it on. I’ll wear this dress and throw down maybe 115mph. I’ll keep rising.’

A frustrated Eubanks said: ‘See, here is the thing about me and you, Coco. I don’t like to just bask in my own career and accomplishments. I like to focus on the players.’

Eubanks continued his critique, urging his colleague to remember that the focus of the broadcast should remain on the ‘world-class athletes’ on the court rather than themselves.

‘I don’t want to talk about myself and what I did and what my serve was,’ Eubanks added. ‘Let’s just try to focus on the players… not on you and I sitting up here in our little fancy clothes.’

Vandeweghe didn’t back down, firing back: ‘The difference also between you and I is that I keep recreating a new career.’

The 34-year-old New York native enjoyed a storied playing career, reaching a high of World No. 9 in 2018 and making the semifinals of both the Australian Open and US Open in 2017.

A two-time WTA singles champion, she also secured a major doubles title at the 2018 US Open and was a member of the 2017 Fed Cup-winning team for the United States.

Since retiring in 2023, she has transitioned from the court to the commentary booth.

Social media was quick to side with Eubanks, with many praising his ’10 out of 10 eye roll’ at the end of the clip as Vandeweghe once again centered the conversation on her achievements.

One fan on X wrote: ‘She was fairly annoying as a player, now she’s annoying as a commentator. She talks with the smug assurance of a former Slam champion. But the problem is, she isn’t one.’

‘Wtf, what does she even mean that keeps inventing a new career and ‘just did it yesterday’? Chris is always so professional, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look so annoyed (in public),’ another said.

‘Chris Eubanks is a legend for this,’ another wrote.
