Everyone feels insecure sometimes — even Posh Spice, according to a brand new interview.
Victoria Beckham, 52, opened up about how aging has changed her relationships with self-doubt and body image in an interview with The Times published Wednesday.
“I’ve spent my whole life feeling that I’m not good enough,” the fashion mogul told the British newspaper. “I’ve been very transparent about that. The great thing about getting older is you really care less about what other people think. I can own the narrative now.”
She reiterated: “I’ve spent most of my life feeling that I’m not good enough, and not liking how I look.”
After a career that has included being an international pop star in the Spice Girls, designing her own fashion empire and launching a beauty brand, the mom of four says that she now prioritizes feeling her best.
“I just want to be the best version of myself,” the former singer said. “I want to be healthy, I want to be fit and that’s about it. I don’t get too caught up in it.”
Beckham went on to reveal that she works out harder now than she did when she was 20 or 30.
“Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you’re limited in what you can do,” she said. “You can achieve great things as you get older.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the designer spoke about her parenting approach for her four children with former soccer star David Beckham, 51 — Brooklyn, 27, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14.
“There’s a big difference between supporting children with what they want to do and forcing them,” she said. “All we’ve ever done with any of the children is support them, help them and encourage them.”
The comments come after her widely publicized fallout with Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, made headlines earlier this year when Brooklyn accused his parents of trying to control his life for the sake of their family’s brand.
Beckham also spoke about her approach to motherhood in her appearance on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast earlier this month, and insisted that she was not a “pushy parent.”
“Ultimately, we want the kids to be hard working, kind,” she said on the show. “I think that I’ve always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids, but I feel that it’s been part of my job to really help them fulfill their full potential. For them to recognize what their sense of purpose is.”
