£28.5 million to support video games studios with great ideas

Applications are now open for a new round of funding under the UK Games Fund, offering grants to help game developers across the UK create and grow their businesses.

The funding forms part of the government’s Games Growth Package announced under the Creative Industries Sector Plan. It provides targeted support to help UK studios develop original games, scale up production, and compete globally.

Funding opportunities available

The UK Games Fund offers three types of grant funding for UK-based games development companies.

Starter Fund

The Starter Fund offers grants of up to £20,000 for graduate, solo and early-stage developers creating their own games. It provides professional support and a pathway to the Prototype Fund to help turn ideas into playable projects. Applications will open soon.

Find out more about the Starter Fund.

Prototype Fund

The Prototype Fund offers grants of up to £100,000 for experienced studios developing their own original games. It supports teams ready to build prototypes, test ideas with audiences and prepare for the next stage of growth.

Applications will close at midday on Tuesday 5 May 2026.

Find out more about the Prototype Fund.

Content Fund

The Content Fund provides grants of up to £250,000 for established studios with ambitious growth plans. It supports companies developing original games with third‑party investment opportunities, helping them scale production and reach global markets.

Expressions of interest are now open for eligible studios.

More guidance and application details are available on the UK Games Fund website.
