The trade war for Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby is far from over, with two Super Bowl contenders reportedly ready to try their luck in recruiting him.
Crosby was all set to become a Baltimore Raven, only for the organization to sensationally back out of a deal amid concerns over an issue with his knee which were raised from a physical.
He returned back to the Raiders and has pledged his future to the team after another offseason rebuild where they took quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first pick of the NFL Draft.
But Crosby is impatient to win. The 28-year-old would be an asset to any team in the league and despite the trade drama back in March, whispers that other teams could try their luck to get him have never totally died down.
And now, according to Hondo Carpenter of Sports Illustrated, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers are two franchises who could try a move.
‘I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby,’ he said. ‘Two teams, specifically, nuclear hot – the Eagles and the 49ers.’
Maxx Crosby was nearly traded from Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens this year
When the trade collapsed, the defensive end insisted his future is with Las Vegas Raiders
Carpenter continued: ‘There are two, maybe as many as three, other teams absolutely in play for Maxx.
‘Okay, does that mean that Maxx is in Spytek’s office (John Spytek, GM for the Raiders) saying “I want out”? No.
‘Does that mean Spytek wants him gone? No. But it means the reality is, last year I was told he was not up for trade or even remotely available and I was right. I was told that.
‘I do believe someone could get Maxx, absolutely. It would have to be the right team and it would have to be the right price.’
That price would likely be at least one first-round pick. The Ravens were about to send their No. 14 pick in the 2026 Draft and their first-rounder for 2027 to Vegas in order to bring Crosby in.
The 49ers believe they are only a couple of puzzle pieces away from being a serious Super Bowl contender.
Injuries decimated their team last year but they still made it to the divisional round before being obliterated 41-6 by the eventual Super Bowl winners, the Seattle Seahawks.
Furthermore, San Francisco’s battle in the NFC West will be tougher than ever in 2026 after the Los Angeles Rams traded for Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in May.
Many teams across the league believe Crosby is available to trade for the right price
Of course, they will also face reigning champions the Seahawks too.
As for Crosby, there are others in the NFL who believe he will start the season with the Raiders but if they get off to another rocky start, he will push to move to a playoff contender.
The Raiders, led by new head coach Klint Kubiak, begin the 2026 season on Sunday, September 13 against the Miami Dolphins.
