Donald Trump’s pattern of posts on Truth Social suggests he slept less than five hours Thursday into Friday – further insight into how little shut-eye the 79-year-old president may be getting.
Between 12:05 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. Friday, the president went on a Truth Social posting spree, only to pick back up at 7:33 a.m, the Daily Beast first pointed out.
Trump often proclaims that he “doesn’t sleep much,” and his press secretary and administration officials often praise him for being available at all hours.
But the president has been observed nodding off during Cabinet meetings, press conferences and, most recently, an Oval Office announcement Thursday afternoon. During the long meetings, Trump’s eyes appear to close periodically for several seconds.
Trump has in the past refused allegations that he is sleeping, claiming he “just closed” his eyes out of boredom.
The president’s middle-of-the-night posts are made either by the president himself, because he sleeps so little, or by staff who are catching up on the articles and posts Trump read the day prior, a White House official told The Independent.
For years, Trump and his allies have boasted about the president’s ability to function on very little sleep.
Vice President JD Vance told Fox News in November 2024 that on a 20-hour trip, the president remains awake the entire time. Former Attorney General Pam Bondi said last year that nobody “can keep up” with Trump because he sleeps so little.
“President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history. President Trump’s commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day,” White House Spokesperson Davis Ingle told The Independent.
Trump is well-known for going on enthusiastic Truth Social posting sessions, often comprised of rants, screenshots of X posts from fans or allies, AI-generated videos or photos and complimentary articles. Those types of sprees often happen late at night, on weekends or holidays.
Friday morning’s early Truth Social postings began around midnight with the president sharing a New York Post article and scrutiny toward Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, whom Trump said “should resign.”
He congratulated the new leadership of the Border Patrol union, re-posted a video of MAGA Senator Mike Lee criticizing Democrats; shared commentary on said video from Lee and Elon Musk; posted a compilation video bolstering the conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton manufactured the Russia election interference investigation; and re-posted negative X comments about Clinton and former President Barack Obama.
After one o’clock in the morning, the president called the Southern Poverty Law Center “one of the greatest political scams in American History” and a “Democrat Hoax” before connecting it to the 2020 election.
“If it is true, the 2020 Presidential Election should be permanently wiped from the books and be of no further force or effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote.
The president posted a screenshot of an X post that falsely attributed a positive quote about himself to the actor Clint Eastwood. PolitiFact found that the 2020 quote actually belongs to former New Hampshire state Representative Fred Doucette.
After sharing screenshots of Musk’s X posts, the president shared a Breitbart video around 2:45 a.m. before he ceased posting until 7:30.
