Jeffries says GOP ‘running scared’ over losing Stefanik’s safe red House seat
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries gave the following statement in reaction to President Donald Trump’s withdrawal of Elise Stefanik’s nomination for U.N. ambassador.
Donald Trump won the Elise Stefanik district by 21 points in November 2024. He withdrew her nomination to be U.N. Ambassador because the extremists are afraid they will lose the special election to replace her. The Republican agenda is extremely unpopular, they are crashing the economy in real time and House Republicans are running scared. What happened to their so-called mandate?

Speaker Johnson invites Stefanik to return to party leadership in house
Speaker Mike Johnson gave the following statement on X regarding the news that Elise Stefanik will remain in the House of Representatives.
Like President Donald Trump he acknowledged the slim majority Republicans must contend with if they want to pass legislation.
Elise Stefanik is truly a great leader and a devoted patriot. Today’s selfless decision shows America what those of us who work with her already know. She is deeply devoted to her country and fully committed to see President Trump’s agenda succeed in Congress. It is well known Republicans have a razor-thin House majority, and Elise’s agreement to withdraw her nomination will allow us to keep one of the toughest, most resolute members of our Conference in place to help drive forward President Trump’s America First policies. There is no doubt she would have served with distinction as our ambassador to the United Nations, but we are grateful for her willingness to sacrifice that position and remain in Congress to help us save the country. I will invite her to return to the leadership table immediately.

What to know about Canada’s snap election in the shadow of Trump’s tariff and ’51st state’ claims
His victory has been interpreted as a clear indication that Liberals preferred a clean break with the Trudeau administration and were persuaded that Carney’s standing as an experienced economist made him the right person to take on President Donald Trump at a time when the Republican poses an existential threat, imposing damaging tariffs on Canada’s steel, aluminum and other exports while hinting darkly about annexation.
With an election date now set, Joe Sommerlad unpacks what you need to know as Canadians prepare to go to the polls.
Here’s what to know about Canada’s snap election
President Donald Trump’s tariff aggressions and talk of incorporating the country as a 51st state has flipped Canadian politics upside down in recent months, allowing the once-unpopular Liberals to mount an extraordinary comeback

Trump confirms Stefanik to remain in Congress
President Donald Trump has confirmed that Rep Elise Stefanik will remain in the House of Representatives in an effort to maintain the Republican Party’s slim majority in the lower chamber of Congress.
He wrote on Truth Social:
As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat. The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!

Senator says White House withdrawing Stefanik UN nomination
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch tells reporters that the White House has confirmed to him that they’re withdrawing Rep. Elise Stefanik’s nomination to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Republicans are getting increasingly concerned about the future of their slim majority in the House of Representatives, and Stefanik’s upstate New York district would be a high priority target for Democrats in any special election, were one called.
