Donald Trump has gone on one of his signature Truth Social sprees with AI-generated posts about his hopes to acquire Greenland and a Golden Dome missile defense shield for the White House.
The president’s fixation on the grand initiatives he’s pitched in the name of national security was front and center on his social media platform Friday evening.
He first posted an AI image of a Golden Dome over the White House, protecting the presidential residence, using space satellites that could shoot missiles at enemies.
Shortly after Trump returned to the White House, he signed an executive order to build an Israeli-style “Iron Dome” for America. But in true Trump fashion, the space-based system was dubbed as the Golden Dome.

During his second term, Trump has also made attempts to pressure Greenland, a semi-autonomous Arctic territory of Denmark, to cede itself to U.S. control. Denmark and the people of Greenland have vehemently opposed such an acquisition.
In a follow-up AI-generated post Friday, the president shared a larger-than-life image of himself, peering over what appears to be a Greenlandic community. The caption in the photo reads, “Hello, Greenland!”
Trump boasted about his Golden Dome project last May, sharing a mock-up image of the missile defense system, similar to his AI post Friday. But instead of the dome being just over the White House, it covered the whole country.
“Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they are launched from other sides of the world and even if they’re launched from space,” he said from the Oval Office.
But what was an already hefty price tag of $175 billion for the system is now estimated to cost $1.2 trillion over 20 years, the Congressional Budget Office reported earlier this month.

Congress has already approved about $24 billion for the defense system through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that Trump signed into law last July, according to the Associated Press.
Trump has said that the Golden Dome would be fully operational before the end of his term in January 2029.
While the president has made progress on his Golden Dome, his pursuit of Greenland has proven to be fruitless so far.
Trump argued in January that the U.S. needs to control Greenland from a national security perspective.
“It’s so strategic. Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place,” Trump claimed during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One. “We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security — and Denmark is not going to be able to do it.”

Trump went as far as to threaten to impose a 10 percent tariff on goods imported from several NATO allies, including Denmark, until a deal was reached for the “complete and total purchase of Greenland.”
Trump pulled back on his tariff threats following pushback from European leaders who voiced their solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland. He claimed at the time to have “formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland” with NATO chief Mark Rutte.
While Trump may have backed down from putting economic pressure on countries to try to acquire Greenland, control over the Danish territory is still on his mind.
The president’s Friday social media frenzy might have seemed random, but as Trump explained in January, control over Greenland and the Golden Dome are connected in his agenda.
“The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON’T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!” he wrote on Truth Social at the time.
