Firefighters are tackling moorland fires including a large blaze above a reservoir which has burned for three days.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said the fire started on moors above Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield, Saddleworth, on Saturday. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Crews have also dealt with a wildfire which started on moorland above Darwen, Lancashire, at 16:30 BST on Sunday.

A major incident has also been declared in Tintwistle Moor in Derbyshire after a flare-up of a fire which first started last month.

The Dovestone fire has sent large plumes of smoke across Greater Manchester.

The fire brigade is investigating and warned people to be “really, really careful” of the dry vegetation which could easily ignite.

Paul Fearnhead of GMFRS said: “Any lit cigarettes or barbecues could start a large or significant fire.

“We ask people to make sure people treat the countryside with respect.”
